Performance evaluation of Iodine Deficiency Disorder control Program in Mandya District

Background: Considering the burden of Iodine Deficiency Disorders in our country, Government India has an exclusive national health program to prevent it from becoming a major public concern. To attain its objectives, National Disorder Control Program (NIDDCP) undertakes routine evaluation all over country. Aim & Objective: determine prevalence Goitre, estimate content salt samples and excretion urine schoolchildren aged between 6 12 years Mandya district. Settings Design: A cross sectional institutions based survey was conducted among villages selected clusters Materials Methods: Probability Proportional Size sampling method used select 30 clusters. 90 children each cluster were screened. Salt ascertained by Iodometric titration urinary estimated Sandell-Kolthoff method. Statistical analysis used: Frequency, proportions mean calculated inferential statistics used. Results: Prevalence Goitre 4.4%, with higher girls. 49.8% specimens lack adequate iodine (<15ppm) at household level. Median UIE 164 Micrograms /litre. Conclusions: As per impact indicators, IDD is not concern district as now.
